I wanna go back to work...

Date: 25/07/2020 (Sat)

Look at this beauty from CCL Impex.
I could had under boiled it and it didn't taste as good as I imagine it to be.  Gonna try again cos I have 2 more!

PapaVoo bought a pack of risotto for his lady boss, so I cooked and let him video to show the helper.
It's rather idiot proof but some helpers are from another planet.

Since our kids all out to work and play, I cooked bee hoon for dinner.  Our kids don't like bee hoon, no idea why.  I poured in vinegar instead of rice wine, luckily PapaVoo who helped me with the stirring stopped me.  I really need to label my condiment bottles ASAP.
Too much ingredients lolxx.... the problem with home cooking, all the time, but we still love it.

It's lunch for PapaVoo and breakfast for me.
You are looking at garlic & herb butter toasted brioche bread topped with ham, egg ben and tobiko, sautee broccoli and cherry tomatoes, bacon wrap collagen sausages.  2 eggs would had made a better plating but PapaVoo and I so old already, cannot eat too much eggs like youngsters.

The egg ben not the best looking, but the lava flowed.... yum yum

Dinner was still old man and me.  We had bulgogi beef which were too chunky, the korean clam and tofu soup not fantastic, kimchi rice so so only.  All from SHC, I think we are expecting more and more.

I manage to do quite a bit of laundry and clean one electric fan, will continue with the rest the next day.

A bit bored to stay at home on weekends, but the moment I step out I always regret and freak out.  When the hell can I go back to work to get back my money and life, haiz...

When my char siew tasted better than restaurants

Date: 22/07/2020 (Wed)

Brunch, egg prata for Luis and me.

I made lemongrass lime juice, only me finds it nice.

Intelligence of many nations are being exposed under COVID, Singapore no exception.

Dinner.

I made chicken with orange sauce out of Jap karaage chicken cos there was this one and only orange sitting in the fridge going to rot soon.

Bought this seafood in banana leaf from SHC, not bad, just that the fish was still not cooked after 15mins in oven.  I took it out and pan seared it.

Hubby ordered ice-cream from his new idol Wang Lei.  Surprisingly as good as expensive gelato at almost half the price.

I made Luis fried rice and myself porridge with the last piece of cod.
Soft food is better for my poor butt.

PapaVoo ta bao dinner, so that I could take a break.  Had great fun watching SHC Live and merrily +1 +1 at the same time learning some recipes.

Made yummy non-photogenic food that Darren likes before he went to work.

Packing took sometime every time delivery arrived.
Loving my long working top with plenty of space.

First purchase of iberico pork jowl after seeing so much rave.....

And I took so long to find out what's the rave about.
The fats became invisible or rather melted in between the meat after oven.  It's bursting with juice, very very soft, no need to chew.  It's so far the best char siew we ever eaten, no restaurants we tried can beat this.  Another item that I will not eat outside any more since it's so easy to prepare.

Other food that I won't buy out since I can cook within them with my limited ability are:

1) mua chee
($2 only a few pieces, $2 I can make a soup bowl of it to feed a kampong)

2) chong qing mala grill fish
(those at foodcourts/coffee shop really CMI using deep fried fish, restaurants cost almost a hundred bucks, which we will probably spend once in a blue moon)

3) foie gras
(why would I spend $30 over for something I can make in 2mins with the same taste at around $6)

4) yakitori chicken
(did we go back to Tori Q since I learnt how to grill them?)

5) oyakodon
(mine version is upsize with more eggs and meat, and more flavorful, heehee...)

A success and a failure, I flopped my roast pork again.
Dinner was still good, cos the char siew was incredible.

Naughty Luis, after buying tickets to USSR then let us know.
But I know it's difficult for a young and lively to stay home like an old woman like me.  Scold him a bit but didn't make it too harsh.   Even made him and his gf sandwich for lunch, where to find such a good mother lolxx...
Please be happy and safe my son.

Wanna do plating but brain dead

Date: 20/07/2020 (Mon)

Dinner, not too tough.  Stir fried pre-marinated bulgogi chicken, pan fried cod, spinach tofu topped with tatami iwashi.

Tatami iwashi tasted like cuttlefish, it's very pretty and I thought of doing a nice plating with it but somehow my brain went dead.

Finally cleared off those bell peppers in this dish.

Poured steam fish sauce over fried fish, heehee...

Darren helped to pick up NDP fun pack.

Like the face masks very much.

I tried out plating with tatami iwashi again but it looked really weird kiap between my tamago lolxx...

Anyway, made teriyaki chicken, tamago as side and miso soup, Jap style dinner done.

An accidental shot before I went to sleep.

Give up on normal life

Date: 18/07/2020 (Sat)

Dinner.  Thyme pork chop wasn't as good as previously, I kinda overcooked it.
Should had serve a slab instead of cutting cos it dried up further.  The vinegar purple cabbage and apples turned out amazing with a bit of mustard added in.

We had pan seared octopus tentacles topped with toasted breadcrumbs.
Bought and cooking method taught by SHC.  With this, I finally tasted sweet octopus which I had missed greatly in Greece.

Brunch, I made burgers.
Instead of the same old chilli or tomato sauce, I made my own honey mustard sauce, oh boy oh man!  It's so GOOD!

You are looking at beef burger with apple wood bacon and cheese.
All bought from SHC except for lettuce and cheese.

Went Changi Village.  Wanted enjoy some breeze at the beach and have cheap dinner.
The car park was crowded, we should had just drove out.
It's so crowded that I freaked out.

Went Changi City Point, it's less crowded but this would be my last time going out on weekends le....
Give up on normal life.
Nice ramen, happy to be able to eat without sweat.

I found this lobang in FB, they do free delivery with purchase of $10.
Most veg sellers requires at least $30 and I even saw some at $75 for free delivery.  I am not a stingy person if I can buy from SHC but green leafy veg dies faster than we can finish eating them.  Tell me how to hit that amount??  So giving this CCL a try soon.

Still scary to dine but nobody cares

Date: 17/07/2020 (Fri)

I am trying to make hubby eat breakfast at home to further lower his risk of kena-ing COVID, but he didn't take my advise.  We may be husband and wife but to each's own...
Brunch for myself, had been taking more coffee than milo these days.

My condiment drawer looks like that when I open it up.
I am thinking of labeling the caps instead of trying my luck each time to pull up the correct bottle I need.

The french chicken was really cute.

I was hoping it's easier to work with since it's smaller but it's so full of hair and I hate to spend time on cleaning and plucking.

Did a chinese roast, didn't realise that I run out of oyster sauce.
I should had replaced it with dark sauce cos it turned out less flavorful, but nevertheless still a nice chicken.

The chicken went with rainbow veg fried rice.

Saved stomach space for these fruits Darren brought back from TransComm.

Love the coconut agar agar, forgotten to take note of the seller.

Cooking my way through cos it's too scary to dine out, but nobody cares.

How to steam ribs like restaurants

Date: 16/07/2020 (Thurs)

Woke up feeling lazy, so ordered Grabfood for Luis and myself.

PapaVoo came back from half day leave suddenly.  We could had dinner out with less crowd on a weekday but I already taken out the meat to thaw for dinner.

Saw this comment for the above post and decided to give that irritating buddha a piece of mind.
It's probably a bot cos not reply.
I really hate it when vegetarians criticize on others' eating habits.  They thought by doing so they sound like a saint but actually sound like a busy body with no respect for others.

PapaVoo brought me to IKEA.
I bought oval plates for big fish and small fish lolxx...  And a egg cutter.

Dinner done.  You are looking at breaded crab claws, prawn and cheese rolls, steam egg with dumplings and steam pork ribs with fermented beans.

Learnt a secret from SHC Live Demo......... soak ribs in ice cold water for 15mins and pad dry before marinating.  And there you go, home cooked with restaurant standard.
The steam ribs from dim sum restaurants often came in pathetic portions, so this big plate was like bestowed from heaven.

Nothing special about the crab claws, felt like eating flour.
Didn't really fancy the prawn and cheese rolls either.

1st half of Dec - suddenly last month of 2024

01/12/2024 Other than the NTUC supermarket, Singapore Pools had the most business.  Why people keep trying their luck when the odds are so...
